Position: Pet Department Associate

Here at A.W. Brown we are proudly employee-owned. Customer service is our number one priority and our Associates are often the first contact that a customer has upon entering the store. Associates are responsible for providing value-added customer service by offering courteous and knowledgeable assistance. In addition, the Pet Department Associates will assist the department manager in all functions required to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our small animals, fish and reptiles. Must be able to work Wednesdays and Saturdays.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide excellent customer service and assistance:

- Project a helpful, friendly image to all customers at all times.

- Offer advice and answer questions to help customers find what they are looking for.

- Refer customers to other employees for further assistance as needed.

· Feed and water the fish and live pets as directed by department manager.

· Maintain and uphold all department expectations including often repetitive and rigorous cleaning schedules.

· Must be comfortable handling or working with all live animals such as rodents, birds, reptiles, etc. Handling insects is required.

· Maintain cleanliness and organization of Live Pets/Fish Dept:

- Clean and sanitize all cages and tanks per departmental procedures.

- Perform regular water changes (often several times a week) of fish tanks.

- Keep shelves and walkways clear of clutter or hazardous obstructions.

- Clean up any spills or bedding from tanks or cages.

· Check to make sure that all animal and fish cages and tanks are signed and labeled accurately.

· Stocking shelves and filling bulk bins for items related to the department.

· Attend and participate in store meetings and training sessions. Learn about the live pets and fish that we sell in order to better serve the customer.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

· A minimum of six (6) months previous experience in a similar retail environment.

· Must have small animal and/or fish experience.

· Excellent time management and organization required.

· Must be 18 years of age or older.

· Must be able to lift 40lbs regularly.

· Must be able to spend long periods of time on your feet, oftentimes for the duration of your shift.

· Must be friendly, team-oriented and enjoy working with customers and other employees.

· Must be available weekdays and weekends.

· Must demonstrate initiative, reliability and professionalism at all times

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
